1. I have a two-zone system. One of my condensors is running much louder than the other. Both zones are holding temperature at 75, even in this heat. In the zone corresponding w/the loud condensor, the humidity is much higher (60-70%) than the "quiet condensor" zone (around 50%). Condensors are both two ton, identical units. My a/c installation company (who clearly don't feel like coming to check it) says "if it's holding temperature, it's working fine." But it's so damn humid, and the noise is so not right sounding, that I can't quite believe that. Anyone know enough about this to offer an opinion?

2. When going on vacation (for a week or more), do you turn off the central a/c completely, or just set it higher? Is there a problem turning it off, in terms of the house getting too warm/humid/moldy? If so, what temp is good to hold it at?

thx

High humidity is usually the sign of an oversized unit. When a unit is too large for the job, it will not need to run for very long to get the temperature down to the desired level. Therefor, it will not run long enough to lower the humidity.

As for the noise- what is loud? The cooling fan for the evaporator? Or the compressor? Could be a bad bearing in the compressor, or maybe the fan is out of balance. If it's a buzzing noise, it could be the contactor, which is a large relay which turns on the high-voltage circuit for the compressor.
