So I planted a nice herb garden this year only to watch the beetles eat everthing. How do I get rid of them?

I assume you mean Japanese beetles? The best thing to do is go out early in the morning while they're munching away, with a cup of soapy water, and knock them into the water. I've not heard good things about the beetle trap - it just brings more beetles to your yard.

I believe that you can use Milky Spore on your lawn and garden to kill Japanese beetle grubs. After a couple of years of applications, you soil should have a sustainable milky spore presence that will give you long-term protection against Japanese beetles.

I use these bags/traps. I put 4 of them up around my property (in Warren Co) and they FILL up within two weeks, that's a lot of beetles. They aren't so bad around here, but they will destroy your landscaping if left unchecked. These bags are made by Rescue, there are others made by Bug B Gone but the Rescue bags are stronger.

BTW, If you use them, don't place them near what you're trying to protect. Many people make the mistake of attracking even more beetles to their plantings. I've also used a spray to treat my ornamental trees and fruit trees. You hook your garden hose right to the bottle and spray the only drawback is hat it'll only last a little while. If you want better protection you can have Truegreen/Chemlawn come out, they'll spray all your plantings and it'll last a few months. Here's that do it youself spray, you can get it from lowes or home depot.

I use to have a serious JB problem, we started with using the bag/traps but after a couple years the problem appeared to become worse with the number of JB increasing and the increase in grub (JB larve). Went the Milky Spore route and now it's rare that I even see a JB on our property.

Just an observation.
