Not quite home fix it, BUT....

My mother seems to think that oil heat is worse for allergies than gas heat. Does anyone know if this is true? And if so, the reason?

The question really only applies to a forced-air system. For any other system type, -"in theory"- burned oil or gas 'emissions' are not circulated through the spaces being heated.
So.... if forced-air, then maybe oil is worse than gas, but..... forced-air systems are bad for allergies anyway.
