Hello,

I am planning on renovating a bathroom. I have an old porcelain tub that the Emanuel is warning away. I could have it reglazed at a cost of ~400.00 or simply replace it. I think I am going to replace it given that the bathroom will be tiled. No since doing the work using the old tub with the risk of having to replace it in the future.

The question: what type of saw do the pro's use to cut up the porcelain tub to remove it. I assume it is hi speed.

The pros use a sledge hammer after donning long sleeves, heavy duty gloves, safety glasses, and sealing off the room to keep shards from flying all over the place.

Or have someone carry it to your yard and use it as a planter.

Ya don't saw cast iron unless ya got a lot of time and blades. Have at it with a sledge like JC said or cut it with a welding torch.

Emanuel is warning away? That happened in the book of Proverbs didn't it?
Get two other guys, preferably big guys and one of those big appliance dollys with the strap that has the ratchet on it. Up end the tub, strap it on the dolly and with two guys in front and the strongest guy on top, one step at a time head down the stairs. BE CAREFUL!
Or......
1.Call a licensed plumber. 2.When he gets there pay him as much as wants.3.Go to work and let him do his thing.

Ha... you are correct "warning away" is really wearing away.

I think I pulled my back picking up a nail.

Thanks for the advance all. I just may call a plumber.

Get it re-emanueled. NOthing like an old cast iron/porcelain tub for keeping hot water hot when you're soaking in the tub. New ones cost $1000+. Get new fixtures for it and you'll be set.

Good man Trent! you and your back will be much happier in the long run.
If you do change your mind though and decide to cut up the tub with a " high speed saw" please let me know. I'd like to film it for America's Funniest Home Videos.
