Hello All - I have an old soapstone utility sink in my laundry room in the basement. It looks to have never been cleaned. Anyone know how to clean these sinks? It looks like it has a bunch of mineral deposits / rust at the bottom of the sink. Is there a chemical you can use to remove? Any thoughts welcome. |

Don't worry about harming the soapstone with a cleaner, it is very dense and won't be hurt. If nothing else works you can use sandpaper. Start with 100 grit and work your way up to 220 to get a smooth surface. Soapstone is very soft and is easily sanded. If you have an random orbit sander it will be a snap. When done, apply mineral oil once in a while until the stone remains black. |

correct...You can clean soapstone with anything, including muriatic acid, you just have to oil it afterwards. |
