I rent an apartment and my radiators are on the ceiling. This doesn't bother me - however the pipes that run on the ceiling are also in every closet. My apt. gets very hot being in the basement so my closets get even hotter. Is there something I can wrap around the pipe that is in the top of the closet to minimize the heat in there so it doesnt' damage anything?

I don't know if this will work or not but....you can buy these foam like pipe insulators at Home Depot. They are shaped like a pipe, have a slit down the side of them, and you just slip them on.

You don't want the black foam pipe wrap for steam pipes...get the fiberglass pipe insulation with the white paper cover. It comes in different diameters, so you need to figure out what size pipe you have. It costs around $6 for a three foot section and is available at Home Depot or any plumbing supply.

tk - ditto on the fiberglass insulation. and you can use mineral block (mineral wool) insulation.
Fiberglass insulation

A provider is at - www.iowatechniques.com/pipeinsulation.htm

Another route might be this newer paint-on product NANSULATE:

Their FAQ page:

also, this project sounds like it's your landlord's responsibility, not yours.

I think I will give my super a call when I get home - LOL - I dont' think I can reach the pipes w/o a ladder to measure them so I might as well have him do it. Thank you for the suggestions - I am printing this out so I can know which options I can suggest.

THANKS EVERYONE!!!
