Hi,

Am planning to install a storm door in front and also a new back door (may require new frame as well) and storm door as well.

Can anyone recommend a person to do this without breaking the bank? I'm sure I can go to Lowes or Home Depot and have them install it if we buy there but I always hear of poor service or quality of work for not so reasonable labor costs.

Whether you use them or not, it'd be worth getting a quote from ArtCraft on Northfield in Livingston (same side of the street, but before you'd get to Livingston Bagel). We were very happy with a storm door from them and were very unhappy and very overcharged for the solid cherry wood door we got from a builder's source.

Installation is the key re: doors, and in our case ArtCraft made sure they got it right - I couldn't believe how long it took to install a storm door!

Sorry - just checked my home improvements file and the receipt isn't there. I've seen it in the past 6 months and if it turns up, I'll let you know. (We had our door done years ago, so the cost will certainly be higher now.)

Both Home Depot and Lowes charge about $125 or so to install a storm door. They usually have sales in Fall where its much less.

just got a estimate on storm and running about $120 for a storm but an entrance for back or front wood doors for labor is approx $750 including reframing/carpentry! yikes.

Just remember that installing a new front door is a little more than just taking out the old one and sticking in the new one.Theres a sill to deal with as well as casings on the outside and inside that probably are on plaster on the inside, and abut whatever siding is on the house.Older homes are usually not plumb, level or square which adds to the overall job.Lets not forget the lockset and deadbolt. How about disposal of the old one? Just remember, you get what you pay for and a front door is the first thing, visitors and potential buyers see.Not a place to cheap out, imho.
