We have a house built in the 1920's, when replacing a ceiling fan, we noticed the wires are this armored cable (BX) type. They are extremely brittle and do not look safe to me in their current shape. I am not an electrician, so I have called one to assess the situation.
Basically, just wondering what solution he may offer and the cost associated with repair/replacement?

It is not alwaysd necessary to replace them. The exposed ends will be a bit ragid but workable. This will depend upon physical inspection. The cost to replace them will depend on where it's coming from etc. You will most likely incurr costs to repair the holes cut (if necessary) by the electrican.
Hard to say for sure what to expect.
Good luck.
