Had a mouse sighting in the house - neighbors are doing major renovations that has sent them scurrying. Exterminator came and set some traps and put down the poison bait that is supposed to kill them. Well, good news/bad news: No sign of any more mice, however there is a heinous stench that cannot be located, leaving us to believe that a mouse or mice have died in the walls. Anybody experience this? The exterminator came back with some strong odor masking stuff, but that smell wasn't much better. We're going to try Ozium next. Any other advice? How long should we expect this to last?

Give it 2 to 3 weeks, and it will get better day by day. |

If you can smell it, it probably isn't just a mouse, or at least not just one. The smell will go away eventually, though your timeframe will vary depending on the size of the carcass, humidity and temperature. You're correct, anything that is strong enough to mask decay odor usually smells pretty horrible itself. Best I could reccomend is open the windows when possible and run fans to help air out your house. I remember when my mother had some work done on her first floor bathroom, and we found a pigeon skeleton inside the ceiling. Who know's how many years it was there. |

I guess the previous owners (and neighbors) neglected to tell you about the body buried there, eh? |

Well, like I said, the smell will depend on the size of the carcass. Just make sure you don't get caught. And remember, if you keep your alibi simple, you'll have less of a chance of getting tripped up. just kidding
