When we closed on the new house, there was a radon service agreement from the company above, RSA. They do radon testing for gas concentration, etc. I've never heard of them before but figured, it came with the house so what the heck? We certainly didn't have this with the old house. Now they're sending us very strong notices "urging" us to renew and "we've contacted you several times" -- not true, to renew our radon agreement. Could anyone share thoughts on this company and its services? |

Ah, Kibbegirl, again! Positive thoughts now! This sounds a lot like the the chimney companies that call after you close to try and sign you up for work that they supposedly quoted the previous owner. Was the "agreement" as a result of testing you had performed or was it an agreement the previous owner had with RSA? If the former, you should be paid up. If the latter, they're fishing for new customers. Post a little more info. |

If your radon tested low, there is no need to renew the agreement as long as you had it teste (the house for radon)when you bought, by a reputable company, and are assured/comfortable the reading is truly low. These warranties are "gimmicks" the relow companies use to defuse any radon issues for new buyers as yourself, when they (the relow companies) resell relo houses. The radon warranty company was paid already. Radon is not like termites which can strike again. If you don't have radon, it is quite unusual for it to suddenly appear (unless it was really high and the original test was bogus). To be certain, have the house tested and if it is high, call the warranty company to fix your house for free before the warranty expires. |
