When we were having the house inspected for purchase, our home inspector advised draining the water from the boiler monthly. I was a kid the last time I had to do this and that was with an oil burner. Having not had to do this in our last home, I'm a bit unsure of what valves need to be fiddled with to drain it properly. I saw the one that actually drains the water from the little glass level but isn't there one or two others that need to be turned as well? Thanks for any advice! |

There should be a valve located at the very bottom of the boiler by the floor. Most of the ones I have seen tend to be on the back or near the back on the side. You don't have to, nor should you, drain all the water. Just drain the sludge until the water runs clear. Since you aren't using the boiler during the summer, I don't think you need to drain it until you turn it on for the heating season. The concept isn't different for oil and gas fired boilers. |

So it's just the one valve, yes? I know where that one is. I was under the impression there was another one (or two) I needed to close off as well... |
