Since moving into our home, we've always paid our HVAC company annual fees for service contracts. After having a huge problem with flooding (3 times in 1 week!) from our original whole house humidifier due to incompetence, I decided to switch our service contract from company one, to Suburban Energy b/c they had recently installed our Rinnai tankless continuous hot water heater. I then had them replace our humidifier with an Aprilaire since the old one was not very effective even when it wasn't flooding the basement. After just one year with Suburban, I received an invoice for "renewal" of our service plan. They have decided to do away with service contracts for any systems other than Furnace and have increased the charge for the furnace-only by 39%! Previously, I had contracts for Heat (forced air w/gas) for $115, Central AC for $140, whole house humidifier for $50, & gas fireplace for $35. In my opinion, it was money well-spent. In fact, having the contract saved us a ton of money because we had to have our furnace blower motor and some other parts replaced this past winter. Now they want $159.95 for furnace-only and offer no contract for the other items. Since I find this a humongous increase in cost (the woman that answered the phone tried to tell me "all costs go up due to inflation") and can no longer have contracts on my other systems, I am in the market for a new HVAC company. I'd appreciate it if anyone would please post recommendations of good (responsive, quality work) companies that offer annual service contracts for HVAC, humidifier, gas fireplace systems. We've been quite happy with Suburban's work so far, but for peace of mind we really enjoy having pre-season maintenance & inspections and a service contract for reduced labor and parts charges when things need replacing. Thanks!

For the HVAC and Humidifier, I'd go with either PSEG or Meyer & Depew. PSEG was always great at our old place, came out quickly, solved the problem. It's not a "full-service" program (i.e., no annual maintenance included), but it's good for covering yourself and really inexpensive! http://www.pseg.com/customer/home/install/protect/overview.jsp Meyer & Depew have been fantastic with any warranty issues with our new system. We'll probably wind up getting a contract with them once the warranty is up. http://www.meyer-depew.com/ |
