I am replacing my 30" storm door at the back of the house and am looking into options for a pet door as well. Looks like I could custom order a Larson storm door from Lowes with a pet door already installed for about $400 (pricey!) but looking to see if anyone has done anything like this that is maybe more affordable. I wonder if it makes sense to buy a plain door and then have a pet door installed? Thanks for any suggestions!

Probably cheaper and a better job in the long run to have the mfg. do it up.

What Lowes did you get your quote from? I was at the one in Union Thursday asking about ordering a both a 40" storm door and a 30' one and was told they couldn't do it.

Re the pet door, I agree with daylaborer--most of the storm doors are metal or metal clad. Certainly the Larson doors are. I don't see that as an easy DYI project.

Make sure a two year old can't fit through! My niece's baby did just that. Kid wound up in the back yard which was, thankfully, fenced in!
