I have nice brick steps with stone treads, but the flagstones are really deteriorating, and the steps and landing are semicircular, so that there isn't hardly any space to stand when you swing the porch door open. I was thinking maybe I would dare to build new square concrete steps, by building a mould and pouring the concrete myself. I thought I could even do them with brick facing on the risers, or even new flagstone treads. Here's the question: how stupid would I be to try this myself? It's a lot of concrete (I'd probably pay to have someone come with a truck to pour). Also - If I did a partial demo fo the existing steps, could I leave them inside the mould when I make the new ones? Maybe if I broke them down and drilled some rebar into them? It would save a whole lot of demo money, and reduce the amound of concrete needed. Just an idea I've been playing with... |

How many steps? I know someone who did her own, but it was on a cottage, and was only two steps high. If you're talking about four or five steps, that's a lot of concrete to work with. I'd be worried about structural stability, cracking, etc. If you're not familiar with working with concrete (I certainly am NOT), it might just be easier to hire someone. |

Insto-steps! I've actually purchased steps from these people. http://www.sangerprecast.com/ |
