So, my house has a history of termite damage. The last time we treated for any damage was approx. 1 year ago. We have no indication of new termite damage, but would like to take proactive measures and spray for termites annually.

We spoke w/the person who treated our house last year re: entering into some sort of yearly plan and he recommended against spraying, unless there's current visible damage. Could he be correct?

A lot of the threads I've seen on this topic refer to annual termite spraying of properties that have a history of termite damage. Has anyone heard otherwise?

Annual inspections, yes. Annual treament, no. Around here, most of the folks who do treatment will offer you a contract at the time that essentially says, "you pay me an annual fee, in return I'll inspect annually to determine if further treatment is neccessary." These contracts generally contain some provision for repairs / treatment in the event that the critters come back during the contract period.

I see. Maybe that's where we're not understanding each other. But, why didn't he clarify that?

Oh, well. I'll talk to him again about it.

Thanks!

If you enter the annual contract, be sure to keep it up. if you don't and the termites come back, they don't cover anything, and you pay a new conract fee, if I remember correctly.

Bklyngirl,
Can I ask who you're using to inspect? I need to do the same thing.
Thanks...

As an alternative I would highly recommend Buckingham. We have him out once a year for a general inspection and spray where necessary. He is well thought of on this site. I don't have his number handy, but I am sure someone will chime in with the correct contact details.

Lady:

I wouldn't recommend the termite guy we've been dealing with. I don't trust his opinion, because I don't think he's very knowledgeable.

I may be stuck with him for now, however, because Buckingham, whom I highly recommend, does not take on new yearly contracts if he's not the person who previously inspected/treated the house. Apparantly, every time Buckingham has done so in the past, it has brought him nothing but trouble. I'm not sure why, he didn't want to elaborate.

I may go with Aristocrat Pest Control, which I've used for other pest control work before discovering Buckingham. I recommend them, as well.
