Here's one. Does anyone have experience creating grey water systems for landscape irrigation?

I have no experience creating one, but I recently did a search for coposters and there were several websites that sold kits or information on how to create one. If you've had no luck searching for 'grey water systems' you might try the composting ones.

I intend to buy downspout rain barrels and attach them to soaker hoses for next spring. But that's about as far as I think I can go.

Have a landscape architect who will help design the grey water system. I need one with a shut-off valve. When I use cleaning agents that biodegrade, it can be on; when not, off. The droughts in August here are killers; so the grey water will feed into an irrigation system. Why pay twice for all the water that comes into the house, all those showers, laundry loads, disposal flushes, etc.? Once in the water charge, then again in a sewer charge when I need water for plants anyway. Would love to find someone who has a gws in place.

has anyone ever had a landscape designer re-design their property using most of what is there already with maybe a little addition here and there? i landscaped my entire yard last year (i told them where to put everything) but now i'm not that happy with the end result. i just want a nice design put on paper so i can implement it at my leisure. any ideas?

Oldstone,

Many designers charge only for the designing. They will do this and you can plant on your own schedule. I've read some threads about this in the past, but I don't think it matters who you use. They're landscape designers, not landscapers, per se.

I'm an avid do-it-yourselfer, so I'm also doing my own landscaping, and I've been reading like crazy. One book I have that reads like the textbook for landscape designers is, "The Garden Book", by John Brookes.

It sounds like you've begun the do-it-yourself landscaping. I'd be happy to loan you this book if you're intersted in continuing on your own. You can P.L. me if you want to.

BTW,

I love that you posted your question here and not on the "Landscape Designer" thread in the Home Fix-It proper.

Way to support the revolution.

jb, thanks very much for the offer. what a nice guy. anyway, i have more than "begun" the do-it-yourself landscaping...i've spent a lot of money (about 20k, which includes all new sod, irrigation, trees, etc.) but i don't get a thrill from looking at my yard.

i need some recommendations on who is a good designer beyond dean weiss...as he is inconsistent in calling back or even showing up. any women landscape designers out there?

p.s. i'm happy to post here because i do feel that there should be a gardening topic section on MOL but dave either doesn't want one or thinks there isn't room for one, i don't know. i feel a little guilty going against him with your rebel area but this is a better way to zero in on gardening issues instead of a thread started here and there in home fixit or help.

Carolle Huber has designed many yards in Mpwd, SO and other towns in the region. I would be surprised if she wouldn't work with you, Oldstone. If you've spent as much as you indicated, she might save you money overall; think the landscapers and nurseries she uses do so at discount, but not sure.

Thanks again, JB, for this great section and subsections. Ask Jamie about making it permanent. He's running for office.

It occurs to me that if several people used Huber or landscapers that work with her, we could ask for additional discounts because of multiple jobs in relative close proximity. If anyone is interested in this, PL me.
