This morning I lifted the area rug up in the livingroom and noticed that the area under the rug was alot lighter than the part of the floor that did not have a rug on it.If I remove the rug will the part that is lighter eventually darken? It was a prefinished floor when installed |

I think it will for sure. Cherry darkens significantly with age, mostly due to sunlight. We chose natural cherry for our kitchen cabinets, and they've darkened gradually, except where the wood is covered by the closed doors. When you open them, the wood inside is much lighter. We were told, btw, that the sun would do that.

I have Brazilian Cherry floors - and went into a panic over the same thing. The area DID darken, but it took a few months. It is still somewhat noticeable, but I think only to me. That being said - I LOVE my floors. And I love the wood. There is nothing like a real wood floor and the richness of the cherry is beautiful.

We also have Brazilian cherry floors and although I was told that they would gradually darken, I was shocked the first time I moved a floor lamp and saw a lighter circle underneath. But once exposed to light, it did darken and now it isn't noticeable. |
