The 2nd floor bathroom sink stinks right after the water is turned off. Tried changing all the pipes underneath (now it drips a little) and it doesn't seem to make a difference. Any thoughts? |

Sounds like the vent is cracked. |

Usually bacteria buildup in the overflow of the sink is the culprit. See if you can somehow funnel or squirt some bleach into it. Better if you can also stuff a rag into the drain a couple of inches down to clog it ( with a tail hanging out of course so the rag is retrievable ). This will allow the bleach to stand and really get the job done, overnight if possible. Bleach-water solution is ok. |

A plumber who did some work for us strongly recommended pouring a quart of cheap bleach down each drain once a month. Said it would help keep the gunk from collecting, which leads to stink and slowdown. I did start doing it in sinks, shower and tub and odors and speed do seem better. |

We have had stinky sink/shower as well. Instead of bleach we use baking soda and vinegar together, works great. Helps with minor clogs too. |
