We have what seems like a bunch of pretty old 2 prong electrical outlets on our first floor. Today one of these proceeded to pull out of the wall while I was unplugging something so i turn off the power and unscrew the two wires from whats left of the little metal box. Do I need to put something on these exposed wires to cover them or am I ok with just putting the cover plate back on? Also, does anyone have an idea as to what it would cost to replace all of these old outlets with newer ones? Thanks |

By little metal box,do you mean the old outlet? You definitly need to put wire nuts on them until you can get an electrician there, which by the way,you most certainly need to do.If you have children, you'd better take measures to cover the box before someone gets seriously hurt.Better yet,if you can, leave the breaker off until you can fix it proper. If you unplug something by wiggling the plug as opposed to yanking the cord, you could probably avoid these situations. |

I would put wire nuts on and then seal with electrical tape |

By fire code, you have to wire nut and tape each wire, before you put a cover plate on it. Why not just replace the outlet? |
