Any magic cleaner out there to be rid of them?

If something like Lysol Cling doesn't do the trick, I would empty some of the water out of the bowl and apply Zud (which is oxalic acid I believe) to it. It removes rust stains in my porcelain kitchen sink so I can't imagine why it shouldn't work in a porcelain toilet bowl. Just be careful about causing scratches in the surface which in turn will make it more likely to get rusty.

depends where it's rusty - you can also leave denture-cleaning tablets to dissolve overnight and they will safely remove rust under the water

Billy Mays is busy advertizing this KaBoom foam cleaner that purports to make a Vesuvius like foam thing in your toilet and clean rust, etc. I find myself strangely fascinated and interested....

Isn't it the case that if your toilet is older, the porcelin surface may be eroded making stains happen more readily? Kinda like my kitchen sink?

I've had good luck with Bartender's Friend (or some name like that- in most supermarkets nowadays). Just remove most water (dumping a bucket of water in the bowl dush a manual flush, and doesn't trigger a re-fill) and scrub a bit with this...it is not abrasive yet seems to work...my latest favorite new product, also works great on chrome.

Thanks all - the toilet seems relatively new so I'm not sure why there is so much staining. I'll be giving your ideas a try.

Take a look inside the tank and check for anything made of steel. For example, someone may have done a quick repair on the chain with a paper clip or used steel washers on the bolts that hold the tank on. These things will rust and streak down the bowl over time.
