I'm painting exterior shutters dark blue, almost black, myself. They've been painted before (I bought them on MOL, of course.) I plan on sanding them and spraying (I just bought the sprayer) with a tinted oil based primer. The primer looks light grey, not the most powerful tint, but better than white. I plan on spraying them repeatedly with the oil base paint till they are uniformly dark blue/black. I've never used a sprayer before. Anyone done this? I'd appreciate any stories of success or failure that would help to educate me before I begin. Thanks, J.B. |

A few spraying guidelines: 1. Make sure you protect the area from over spray. I would protect at least 5 feet outwards. However, you might want to make a "Spray Box" where by the shutters are protected in a large box (maybe someone has a refridgerator box for you) 2. Do many light sprayings instead of a few heavy ones. You will get drips that won't look attractive. 3. Let it dry completely between sprayings. 4. Tack cloth them before you paint to remove any sanding residue. Do these small things and your shutters should look fabulous.
