A couple of the storm windows on my house are missing the lower glass panes - can anyone recommend somewhere I can get replacements? Do these things come in standard sizes, or are they custom? Thanks, Jason |

If just the glass is missing, not the frame, take the frame to Buncher's Hardware on Millburn Ave. in Millburn and they will replace the glass. If you need the frame too, I'd still call Buncher's and see what they can do. Couldn't tell you about standard vs. custom. |

Thanks - just to clarify, I am missing both the glass and its surrounding frame. |

Not to be discouraging just for the sake of it, but I have been searching for replacements since 1999 with no luck whatsoever.

wnb - Did you just get the whole unit replaced in the end, or are you still looking? |

I would just replace the entire window and storm with a vinyl replacement unit.Do a room at a time it might cost $200.00 a window max. |

We had a couple of storm windows made at a place in Union. I think it was called Union Glass, or something like that. It's located on Morris Ave. on the left if you're coming from the GSP- it's in the Lowes vicinity. |

Upon reading my post I realize I should've been more clear... it's not in the same shopping center as Lowes, just that same stretch of Morris Ave. |

The name of that place is Union Plate Glass and I have an interesting story about them. About 7 or 8 years ago I took my sister's Jetta there to have one of the windows replaced. They gave me the price over the phone so I brought just enough cash to pay for the window. It was about $100. I waited there for about an hour while they fixed the window. Once it was done they pulled the car out from the back and I was ready to pay. I was going to work out right after that so I was wearing gym shorts that didn't have any pockets. I went to reach for my wallet and realized that I had left it in the car, with the cash for the window in it. Not smart, I know. It was an accident and I didn't realize until after the job was done. So I went out to the car to get my wallet and noticed that it wasn't in the center console where I left it. Oh !@$%. I looked around for a minute and found it under the passenger seat, opened, and missing the $100!! So I went back into the store and told the guy behind the counter what happened. At that point he accused me of lying and kept insisting that none of his guys would do that. Like I would really work out some kind of scheme to go there with no money, hoping to get a free window. Basically, I just told the guy straight up, "I can't pay you because one of your guys stole the only money that I had for the window!" At that point he got even more furious, kept calling me a liar, and then insisted on calling the police, which I was perfectly fine with since I needed to file a report too. So the cops show up, ask questions, and write up the reports. The guy was still fuming, calling me a liar, and was now at this point threatening to take me to court. I said to him, "If you even think about taking me to court I'll not only go to the BBB, but I'll also go to every local paper to tell my story. Is that worth $100 to you?" Then he told me to get out of his store so I just jumped in the car and took off, never to hear from them again. In the end, I did pay the $100 for the window. It just went into some worker's pocket and not to the business. It could have been worse. I could have been robbed AND had to pay for the window. |

Jason, still looking. The places I've found either just do the glass into your existing frame (which we don't have), or they want to sell you a whole new set of storm windows. Alan Dynan's advice may prove to be the only way forward but for me it's not the way I want to go. |
