Any recommendations for where to buy quality plants for containers? I'd like to go somewhere where they will actually help you if you have questions. |

People at Millstone are helpful. Williams in Westfield (?) is huge and helpful. But I still miss DuBrow's. Metro Plant seems to have some new stock in, but I don't find much help there. |

DuBrows is closed on Northfield Avenue. Given the real estate activity in the area I am guessing the location will become a McMansion farm named Dubrow Estates. |

Oregon Gal, give me a call and we can go together to look for your plants. If you take a look at my garden you will see I am highly qualified to assist you. 973.761.1735. |

I like J & M Home & Garden, 201 Main St., Madison. They are year round and full-service, very helpful. Green Village Garden Center, 403 Green Village Rd. in Green Village (out Shunpike Rd., just beyond Chatham Township) is large and very helpful, the kind of place with reference books that you or they can use if someone is stumped. Also consider using internet sources and pre-planned container schemes that you see online to guide your local shopping. Or post your questions here! |

I'm currently in love with Logee's Gardens (logees.com) which has all tropical plants, many appropriate for house use. |

I've always liked Williams but -- is it just me or have their prices increased dramatically since Dubrow's closed this Spring? In mid July a container of echinea (cone flower was $19 - think it was about $14 last summer). |

Not that this will help much, but I have just thinned my daylilies and irises. There are about 100 of each sitting on my curb on a tarp. Orange daylilies, assorted bearded irises. Bring your own container and they are yours free! Just leave the tarp, please. First come, first served. 46 Courter Ave. Down the street from the Presbyterian Church Rummage Sale on Prospect St., Maplewood. My email server is down, so can't answer PLs... |

Why not post this in the "Gardening Section?" J.B. |

Good point JB. By the time I posted it last night, I was so exhausted I could barely see straight! Will post amended version there! |

I just went to the Great Swamp Nursery down by Gillette. As always, their staff was great, and the prices vastly superior to anyplace up here. All of their ceramic and cement pots are on sale, too (40-70%, as I remember). If you want some quick plants for outdoor containers, the Shoprite in Springfield (across from the mall with CanDo Fitness, Panera, etc) is having a 3/$10 sale on 10" mums and asters. |
