If you are not installing central air, you should probably be looking for a plumbing company. But then, I'm biased. Welcome to Maplewood. Master Plvmber |

Right. We're not installing a/c, so I guess I should just be looking for a plumber. |

When I moved here from the sunbelt, it was a revelation to learn that heating systems are in the purview of plumbers. But that's how it is here, where hot water and steam heating are the methods of choice. No bias here. I'm not a plumber and not related to any as far as I know. |

xNYr.... just outta curiosity... (& SERIOUSLY NOT trying to re-hash any old gas~oil debates) why the "converting" to gas? (I'm assuming you've got a oil-fired system) Is the existing boiler bad/old/leaking/somehow-in-need-of replacing? Are you giving your oil company a fair run here....? |

Dennis Miller 732-904-3717 . 1 st thing that needs to be checked is the condition of your chimminey & if is lined. If thats OK, bout' $3500 - $ 4000 + permits , should be 1 day job. |

jet, Not knowing the size of the boiler or any of the other variables an installation like this entails, such as the distance to the gas connection, egress, how many supplies & returns there are ect., I'd say if you have a license, bond, & insurance, I got ALOT of work for you. Is this your phone number by chance? Heck I'll just stay home from now on and let you work for me. Whataya say? By the way, are you any relation to Fred Miller the inspector from Union? |

JL--The boiler is probably at least 50yrs old, so we're definitely replacing it. From most everything I've read (with the exception of those with a vested interest in oil), it seems that gas is the way to go. I'm still open-minded, though. We've got steam heat and will need a water heater as well. Any suggestions? |

Over a ten year period the cost of gas vs. oil tends to be a wash. Xnyr, how about your oil tank. Is it underground? If it is you are probably going to have to remove it now, rather than later when you sell. |
