Couldn't find the original thread, but there was one about siding a few weeks ago. Hardiboard was included in the topic.
I noticed a house under renovation at the corner of Radel Terrace in SO. It is being completely resided using Hardiboard - pre-stained. (I stopped and asked a worker!) The stuff is touted as being rot resistent, squirrel and termite proof. Personally, I think it looks terrific!

Drove past yesterday, siding all finished. Now it is for sale by owner.
