Make sure you measure right though ... glass doesn't give at all. :-)

If you're handy...plate glass is on closeout at sears in essex green and cutting it is not that hard to do (and yes, sears sells that too) .. I have had much success cutting my own glass at home.

Then you really save a bundle ... and as cheap as it is now at sears ... you can get a sheet simply to 'practice' on.

(yes, I work there now, ask for me and I'll help you out)

The hardware store in millburn does glass. You have to calculate the part of the glass under the glazing, and if you get the glass cut too long, you are out of luck. Better to cut it 1/16th short. Bring a tape measure and measure the glass before you leave the store.

I am an old pro at this. Use a butane torch to soften glazing and dig it out. Don't crack the next window when doing it. When re-glazing, roll glazing around in your hand and it will get less sticky and softer, like pizza dough (Dap 33 glazing). Some folks prime before they glaze, which seems sound. Glazing takes like a month to harden. I think it's just linseed oil and talc.

I love glazing windows. It is the most skill based part of housepainting.

Home depot does not do glass.
