How do you clean a french drain?

I don't mean clean out the muck & debris, I mean cleanse the inside, so the muck & debris are sparkling.

You connect your washing machine's discharge hose into a stand pipe that apparently runs directly into the french drain (not into the sewer) as the plumber (and we, first time homeowners, also) thought.

For the last 6 months, our french drain has been getting a wonderful bath, and our sump pump has been very busy.

We've fixed the problem, at least for now. Fortunate to have a large basin sink in basement.
