The radiator in our third floor bedroom is leaking, rotting the wood underneath and causing some damage to the ceiling in the bedroom below. Any recommendations on a) what to do right now to stop the leaking and b) who to call to come fix it?

Thanks!

Do you have steam or hot water heat? If it is steam, there is a valve you can close where the piping comes into the radiator.

For a plumber, we've been satisfied with Superior Plumbing (West Orange I think.) We've used Superior for this type of stuff many times, always with good success.

I have used Corraggio Brothers and find them very reliable and reasonable.

Depends on where it's leaking ...

If its the union between the valve and the radiator, its easily (generally) fixed by a plumber with the proper wrench....

And if you don't need the heat up there, its even easier to fix by closing the valve.

If the vent is leaking or spurting, you can fix that by pitching the radiator correctly towards the valve, opening the valve all the way and then replacing the vent.

Gateway generally comes highly reccomended ... and for a professional in the area you can always check out: www.heatinghelp.com ... find a professional
