We've got a Kenmore whole house console humidifier. It's been sitting since last winter. The top and fan blades are covered in dust and are not easy to get to (read:impossible). Does anyone know how to go about cleaning this? I would love to just put the whole thing in the shower and run hot water over it but am concerned about the electronics inside. How do I get this thing clean? Help!

I've had the same type of humidifier for several years. I've stopped trying to clean the fan blades - I don't think it's harmful. I do change the filters each year and use Sears Humidifier Baceriostat to control the build-up of bacteria. I think these two things are probably the most important.
