Does anyone here know of a good service person/company nearby that can fix my washer machine. The agitator on my machine went bust. It's not turning and it's making this annoying sound.

If you bought it at Sears, you can call them and pay $195 for a new warrenty that will cover everything to fix it plus will cover if anything goes wrong with it for the next couple of years.

Thanks,

Unfortunately I bought it from Tops, which is now out of business. My next washer will be from Sears.

Phenix, try searching MOL for old threads on appliance repair.

Valley Household Appliance (exact name?) was recommended to me by several people, though I've had mixed experiences with them. Personally, I would call PSE&G if they would work on it. They've always provided good service, but the down side is you usually have to wait a week or so for an appointment.

thank goodness for laundromats when you need them, and happy weekend!

Sears fixes appliances that they don't sell.

What kind of washer is it? Whirlpool, GE, Amana. If the machine is relativly new, it sounds like the coupler between the motor and transmission is broken. Easy repair if you know how. I worked for Sears for twenty years fixing washers and dryers.

Thanks everyone!

I ended up using a service that contracts with Sears, A & E Factory services.

"What kind of washer is it? Whirlpool, GE, Amana. If the machine is relativly new, it sounds like the coupler between the motor and transmission is broken. Easy repair if you know how. I worked for Sears for twenty years fixing washers and dryers."

That's exactly what the problem was. The motor coupler. I wish I knew how to install one in. The part cost $14.95. But labor, house call, plus part cost me $147.95. And yes, I have a Whirlpool washer, which makes an inexpensive motor coupler prone to breakage.

If the machine is more than 5 or 10 years old, throw it out and get a new machine. Don't waste money on an old energy wasting machine. Go to Karl's in Fairfield and get a new machine such as the Fischer and Paykell model 11 which will save you a lot of money each year in electric and water costs and does a great job washing for about $600. Get an Energy Star rated machine. The Kenmores are great, but very expensive for the front load Energy Star Machines. Unless the washer is almost new and just past warranty, it just does not pay in the long run to pay anyone to repair them.
