My kitchen radiator has been clanging away. No leakage as far as I can tell, just loud knocking noises.
I thought I would check here before I called my plumber, thanks.

Do you still have the tax man chained to the pipe in the basement? That could be the cause....

Mem, there are a bunch of threads on this. I would suggest looking back on them. Since you posted you had work done recently it is possible that the radiator is level. It should be tilted slightly towards the supply valve.

Ken,
That tax man was Sunday dinner years ago! :-)
Bobk,
I checked the other threads, their problem was leaking, which I don't have.
How do I tilt it?

Put something under the two legs furthest from the shut off valve, put a level on top of the radiator, I think a half bubble is good

Thanks all. The radiator is set into the wall (must have been very "modern" 100 years ago). I'll just call the plumber.

CT Williams is the best. One of his employees called, talked my fiance through some procedures with the radiators (god knows what, it's like a different language to me), and no more banging, and no bill either.
Cheers and Happy New Year to Todd Williams!

We cured our banging by putting a couple pennies under the legs of one end to tip it toward the return.
