I am thinking of installing a ceiling light fixture in a hallway where there has never been one before. I am wondering, aside from the cost of the fixture, how much it would cost to install, how much work would need to be done on the actual ceiling and if my plaster ceiling would have to be repaired/replaced. Also, if this project cost would outweigh the benefits - what would be a good alternative? |

Is there an existing box in the area you wish to install the light? If so great! If not, then it's hard to say w/o looking at it. Hanging an conecting the fixture isn't that difficult. Best to you. |

A junction box...the metal or now plastic box that the house wiring runs into. If you have one in the spot where you want to hang the fixture, it's a very simple matter. If not, you'll need to have a junction box installed in that spot and run the wiring to it. Still not a huge deal, but not necessarily a do it yourselfer. |
