Try JC Painting -- 908-604-2254. We got a quote from him for the same type of job -- restoring chestnut molding. He was expensive, but had done this sort of work before and seemed to know exactly how to go about it without damaging the wood. In the end we went with someone much cheaper. But we ended up paying them additional money anyway to get the job done (somewhat) to our satisfaction. I wouldn't really recommend this guy, and I don't think he's interested in taking on another one of these kinds of jobs anyway. |

We used JC Painting (Jacek Cymer) and, although somewhat pricey, was truly worth it in the end. We don't have chestnut (the wood was intended to be painted originally), but was the molding was covered with 8+ layers of paint and you could no longer see the detail. These guys stripped it down to bare wood using environmentally friendly chemicals, cleaned up after themselves well, broke windows loose that had been painted shut, and did a beautiful job painting. They also do a wonderful job removing wallpaper and repairing plaster. If you'd like to see pictures of the before and after of our downstairs, go to http://www.godlew.com/scott/index.htm (which should get you to the "repainting the 1st floor" page). I think the "after" pages got posted ahead of the "before." If you want to PL me, I'm happy to talk to you about it. |

Barb, beautiful job on the house. I love the stained glass windows. Friends of ours in South Orange had the same situation-covering the stained glass windows from the inside and outside in the dining room. They exposed them, and they are beautiful. One wonders what people were thinking to cover them up. |

Barb, what a change!!! It looks beautiful. We're going through the same process of ripping up the carpeting exposing the hardwoods etc. |

Barb, Your house looks beautiful. We will be repainting soon and are searching for colors. I love the color of your living room/hall/sunroom. Would you mind posting the name? Thanks. |

Hi Joan, The livingroom/hall/sunroom color was "Shipmate" from Benjamin Moore. It's a fairly light khaki/tan. Keep in mind that colors on the web may not be truly representative of the actual thing although I will admit that this time it's pretty close. The color definitely changes throughout the day. Some evenings it looks perfectly olive... If you want to stop by and see it in real time, let me know and we can work it out. |

Thanks Barb. I'm going to get a sample of it and try it out on the wall. |
