Do radiators need to be unhooked and removed to have wood floors refinished? |

You can work around them in most cases. Just don't get the varnish or stain or whatever on the legs of the rads because it leaves a sloppy, shiny finish that's hard to get off. Master Plvmber |

I think most floor refinishers don't want to remove the radiators because of the weight and the possibility of doing damage. |

I'm fairly certain our floor refinisher moved the radiators. It does seem like the right thing to do, if a big pain. |

Our guys removed every single one -- and reinstalled 'em properly after the job was done. It is the right way to do it, and makes for one a cleaner look all all around. Besides, that wood under the radiator might need some extra attention anyway. Although you won't be moving the rads around the room, if you put them down any sooner than about 2 weeks after the last coat of poly is down, they might settle into the floor just a bit. Or so I've been told. |
