We're planning to replace our 3 storm doors, and are considering using a contractor recommended by a good friend.

We'd like to see what we're buying to check quality, style, etc.

However, this contractor only sells Nordic brand storm doors, but he's never seen them in stores, so he doesn't know where we can see them.

If you have a Nordic door on your home, we'd appreciate the chance to stop by and check it out.

Yeah, I know this is a rather strange request -- but then again, this board is full of strange stuff.

What's strange is the contractor only sells this kind of door and can't even tell you where to look at one?
Get the Anderson "forever door" I have it on my house and love it.

Mark-
I know this wasn't your question, but you may want to get more references. One person's good experience is another's disaster. Is he a window contractor or more general? I'd do some research on the doors, his mark-up and alternatives. It's very strange that he sells these doors but doesn't know where to tell you to see one live. My first thought would be "what a mark-up".

We bought Andersens at Jaeger and are very happy with them. There are several good contractors that keep popping up on this board. Door installation is pretty simple. Just a thought...

Thanks all for your suggestions -- I didn't expect to get too many invitations, but you never know. :-) We probably won't go with this guy -- and we probably won't do it ourselves, despite the relative ease. I hadn't thought of Jaeger; maybe I'll give 'em a try. A co-worker had three projects done through Lowes and they came out great. I know about the bad/mixed experiences from Home Depot Sub-Cs, but hadn't read about anything from Lowes, so we might go that route, too.

From the site..

"Bonded Nordic, Endura and Advantage storm doors are as tough as they are beautiful. They're custom built precisely to protect your prime door from the elements. High-quality aluminum and fibreglass screens offer welcome ventilation in pleasant weather. Bonded storm doors are extremely sturdy and operate so much more smoothly than other brands. Five hinge double brass bearing Z-Bars are standard on Nordic and Endura. Plus, all three doors feature weatherstripped double-strength tempered safety glass wrapped with marine glazing seals for better cushioning and a snug fit. Piano hinge expander bucks are also available for those who prefer an expander installation. See below for a description of jalousie storm doors!"

We have had 2 Pella storm doors now for close to 1 year and love them. We used Lowes.
The only problem is both our entrances, front & kitchen are not standard sizes, and they were a custom fit. Love these old Maplewood houses! It was worth it! The installers did a fine job too.
