We had a new roof put on during the January thaw. I rec'd estimates from several contractors and ended up using Carlito's which we heard about on MOL. They were great. They clearly knew what they were doing and did it well. Neat,on time, and did a great job of cleaning up after themselves. Their # is 201-991-4988. I'm not sure if they deal w/slate .

I just had Glen do some work for me in November. He replaced 2 runs of slate and installed ice shielding on the main roof, put a whole new slate roof over the small kitchen overhang and replaced the two shingle roofs we have on the sunporch and the dormer.

He was fast, flexible, reasonable and clean. He even replaced a bunch of slates that were shaleing (I think that's what he called it-- they were old and starting to flake) at no cost.

I would use him again without hesitation.

Anyone have any good advise about repairing an interior door ? The screws that hold the hinge in place keep pulling out of the frame . It's an old wood door . Thank you for any help .

Use longer screws, much longer so they bite into the frame, not just the casing.

Or dip toothpicks in wood glue and fill up the hole and then replace the screw. This probably isn't as long lived as Ups suggestion, but it is fast and easy.

I must disagree about Glenn Roofing. Almost everything he did for my home (gutter work, repairing slate roof) has been inadequate and had to be re- done by Scotts. If you want a roofer, try Scotts.
