A word of thanks to all of you who instructed me on how to do my own meter reading last month. I'd called in January 2nd's and was suprised (to say the least) that we'd STILL got a bill for over $1000...and then I checked the meter reading number. Apparently when you call in a meter reading and it's below the previous estimated reading, they add 1000 to your actual reading. A short call to PSEG later, and I got my revised bill: we owe nothing this month, they owe me $50, and over the six months we'vee lived here, overcharged us almost $1700! That will pay for half our blown-in insulation next week! What a wonderful resource this site is. Many thanks to those that maintain it and those who post (helpfully!) |

I wasn't aware of that practice, adding 1000 to your actual reading. Thanks for giving us all the clue. Something definitely to watch for. |
