The past cold cycle we started to notice that the steam boiler was just not doing the job. This snap it went wacko. It would fail to come on and I would find the house in the 50's. Or it was firing and not shutting down. Clearly I had a problem. I did note that when it would not come on, that I could knock the float valve with my fist and the unit would fire and seem to work ok for a while. Blowing the float valve down did not have an effect. Well, I isolated it. I noticed that the pressure gage was up to 4 pounds and the unit was still firing. Since I have my pressuretrol at .5 and 1, something was wrong. I guessed that the pressuretrol was not sensing the pressure or was bad. I shut the boiler down and vented the pressure. I removed the pressuretrol and the pigtail. BINGO! The pigtail was clogged. I could hardly blow air thru it. Well, I cleaned the pigtail out, re-installed the parts and all as been working fine for a day and a half now. Keep an eye on the details! Later, George

How did it work out for you? How did you vent the pressure of your boilor? Mine is operating at a very high PSI (12) and I have been trying to ratchet it down to no success, an figure I need to release the pressure somehow. |
