No, I'm not crazy, I am not running the central A/C.

I just found water dripping out of one of the central A/C vent covers. The water is dripping at a steady enough rate that I need a bucket under it.

The central A/C was put in about 2 1/2 years ago, when we put in a 2-story addition. The leaking vent is on the main floor, in the back of the house, located about a foot from the back wall of the house. (It's probably the coldest part of the house nowadays, as there are large sliding doors right there.) There is a bedroom directly over where the leak is, and I don't see any evidence of water in the bedroom above.

Any idea what this could be? I'm waiting to get a call back from the contractor who did the addition. I would like any thoughts as to who else I might call (the A/C installer?).

Update-

We looked under the vent cover and found no water in the ductwork- only in the metal cover and the ceiling was a bit wet on the side. The water has stopped dripping since we opened it up.

I just spoke with my contractor (and subs involved in installation)- the theory is that it's ice damming and the contractor is coming to check the roof tomorrow.

Can someone link me to a layman's explanation of this? Is there a way to prevent it? Could this have anything to do with gutter work we had done this past year (where we had the screens removed)?

OR Could it be condensation from where warm heated air meets cold metal vent cover?

Thanks.
