Carpet installed over Pergo flooring

Would we need to take up the Pergo or can the carpet be installed right over it? I know it "floats" -- so that could be a problem. Also, arn't the tack strips for a wall to wall carpet usually nailed into the floor? Then the Pergo wouldn't be able to move. My hunch is that would not be good for your new carpet! Floated floors have to have room to expand and contract. I got similar opinions from two contractors...so it looks like the Pergo will have to go if we want the carpet.
