I have poison ivy winding about 20 feet or so up a tree in the backyard. Does anyone know of a person/people willing to remove something like this? I thought now might actually be kind of a good time to do it since the stuff is probably a little less poisonous than when it's warmer..any suggestions much appreciated.

Use lopping shears to cut a segment out of the vine. Then, in the spring, when leaves sprout on the base of the vine, spray them with Brush-b-Gon or something like that. The remainder of the vine in the tree with either never sprout leaves again or the leaves will quickly - I can't resist this - wither on the vine.

If you're chicken about even getting close enough to lop (I know I am) Muoi from Oriental Gardeners removed a bunch of poison ivy for me and it never came back.

I am chicken to get that close--and go that high up on a ladder! We were thinking of contacting Muoi to do our lawn so we'll ask him about the poison ivy too. Thanks!

Why would you need a ladder? Just cut the vine at the base of the tree. Once the vine is disconnected from Mother Earth, it is dead.

Our poison ivy was so bad that it actually had branches! Cut it off at the base and leave about a foot of space in between. It takes a long time to die, unfortunately! Good luck trying to remove the vine. We just left ours stuck to the tree.

Cut at the base with a saw. Then paint the remainder coming out of the ground with Roundup at the point where it is cut. It's the only time I would ever recommend using a chemical herbicide in the garden.
