Our back yard in really nobby and it slopes and has all sorts of weeds in it. In some areas it's so nobby that I've tripped and fallen. So we're thinking of maybe re-sodding. Has anybody done this before? Is it expensive? Is it a really major endeavor that would take a contractor weeks? Is it something we can do ourselves? Is there an ideal time of the year to do it? Our yard is 50' x 40' at most.

Any advice or thoughts would be much appreciated!

We put sod down in our front and back yards. My husband and brothers put it down. The most important thing is that it has to watered to root and so that it does not burn. If the weeds are not taken out from the root they will pop up thru the sod. My brothers use to lay sod when they would landscape a home so they had knowldege on how to do it.It is something you can do yourself with a few friends. About two years after we layed the sod our back yard was dug up for our addition and we went with sod again and installed a sprinkler system to cut down on the time it needed to be watered by hand. it should only take day to your lawn our property is 150x175 and it took 4 guys 2 days to do it. Once again keeping it wet is very important.
