hi. michelle again. the soon-to-be maplewoodian looking for contractor recommendations. here's another question:

we want to rehab our broken down original 6 over 6 windows. they need reglazing, refinishing, replacement of broken panes, etc. they are in horrible shape and we want to restore them to their original glory. we got a price of $350 per window.

has anyone else out there done this? is this cost reasonable? i know we could do it ourselves, but we have a ton of work to do on the place just to move in and since we're having the exterior completely done, we're thinking of contracting this out and keeping our sweat equity for the interior.

any cost comparisons or contractor recommendations would be much appreciated.

thanks again.

Virgilian will love you. He comes out of the woodwork (no pun intended) for a window thread.

Chris Black of C+P Black redid some of our windows, replacing the storms and rehabbing the original sashes. They now work beautifully. And compared to new windows, it was EXTREMELY reasonable.

The Black Brothers are our knights in shining armor! They have helped us do the unimaginable....we removed the "modern" aluminum combo storm/screens and installed the old fashioned, carry them up a ladder, wood types! They have also replaced sash cords, rebuilt window sills etc.

They know their stuff and they carefully listen to what your needs are. Reach them at 973-378-8599.

C&P Black are talented and meticulous in their restoration work, especially in the older, period homes in the area. They can restore just about anything to its original splendour.

Of course, I admit that I am quite biased.
