My apologies if this isn't the right forum for this question, but...

I need an honest mechanic for my 2000 Passat. Has various needs, from emissions to headlight to door handle (damn thieves).

Thing is, we are a one car family, so I'd prefer walking distance. I'm near S.O. Ave and Wyoming, which means in the vicinity of downtown South Orange, or in a nearby town if it's by their train station.

I've posted many times in the last few weeks about Dave at Euro Tech on Lackawanna Place (off Valley near Pathmark). Although, he likes to be called a technician & not a mechanic.

He's done so well by me that I'll call him anything he likes.

I have a 2002 Passat & was having electrical issues & warning lights. He did an oil change and the 30k check-up (dealer cost $90; Dave's cost $55). He showed me all the warning codes & told me what to do if things happened again, sending me to the dealer for warranty work. A week later, my radio died & he fixed it. Couldn't find a problem, but popping it in & out worked. He didn't charge me since he didn't feel he did anything and couldn't explain the problem.

He takes regular VW classes & seems to know them like the back of his hand.

Dave is on my list of favorite people these days; I just think he's groovy.
