In the wee hours of this morning, a car scraped along the side of the front of our house and demolished the entire leader leading down from west end of the roof. We called the insurance company (Atlantic Mutual) to report that and other damage but the office is closed for the day. My husband is obviously reluctant to do anything about repairing/replacing the leader until the insurance adjuster has been out and seen all the damage (including the vehicle's having taken out most of the foundation planting along the front of the house). Given the amount of snow collected on the roof, is it okay to leave things until the adjuster can make it out? If not, is there anything we can do to alleviate the problem in the meanwhile?

Just make sure you have a splash block, or something makeshift, to steer the falling water away from the foundation. don't see why that wouldn't cover you for a couple of days. I don't think there's a big rainfall coming. |

Eric: Thanks for the advice. My husband thinks he has a splash block we can use. My biggest concern right now is the snow melting from the roof which is going through the hole where the down Spout used to be. |

We tried to contact our regular roofer and it appears he is out of town because he has yet to return our phone calls. Can anyone recommend a roofer who would be able to replace and rehang the leader which was destroyed when the car hit it? If possible, we would like it to resemble the leaders already in place on the resto of the house. Some of the original parts may be usable but at least one long section was very badly mangled. |
