I have a really ugly ceiling fan hanging in my dining room. I want to remove the fan and put in a normal hanging ceiling light. The problem: the hole for the fan is much bigger than the top of the light I bought. So I need somebody to remove the fan, patch the hole, and install the new light. Two questions: 1. Is this a job for an electrician, or is there somebody else who would do this kind of work? 2. How much should I expect to pay for something like this? Also, please don't tell me I can do this myself. I can't. Honestly. |

Rather than all that, go back to Home Depot and buy a medallon. Ok I can't spell. This will be a foam or plastic plate that is round, formed with cool patterns or plain, and mounts between the light and the ceiling. That will fill the hole or gap. Later, George. Oh, if you want to patch the hole, it is the job of a handyperson, not an Electrican. |

Aha, that sounds good. And then I would have an electrician do the rest? I'm really not comfortable doing electrical work myself. I realize I'm a total moron about this stuff, but I just moved into my first house after 11 years in an apartment. Thanks for your patience! |

A handyman can install the medallion and fixture for you. No need to pay an electrician unless there is major rewiring needed. |

Yeah, get one of those medallions and get a handyman. Should take less than an hour and cost VERY little. In fact, it's such a small a job that I wonder if you might have a hard time finding a handyman to come aout and do it for you. |
