Does anyone have a suggestion on where to get a kit/parts to convert an old pedestal sink with separate hot and cold spouts to the modern variety where the water comes out of the same spout? It's a bear to wash my face/shave in the morning unless I fill the sink with water, and who knows what's been in my sink. Saw an episode of Ask This Old House once when they did this but I failed to Tivo it. Thanks all! |

Thanks for the link David, but I was hoping for the standard, separate hot and cold knobs (which would replace separate hot knob and faucet and cold knob and faucet) with center faucet. I know it won't be a perfect fit, which is why I thought there might be some conversion kit available/required. Thoughts on this? |

Does your basin have a center hole for a spout? Maybe your pop-up lift rod or a chrome blank circle is there now. If so, any wide-spread basin faucet should fit. Otherwise,I've seen conversion kits that span the 2 individual basin spigots by means of a push-on rubber gasket, but I think that's something you might find at a hardware store. I've never seen one in a plumbing supply. |

It does. There are 3 holes, one for the hot spout and knob, one for the cold spout and knob, and a center hole for the pop-up lift rod (using your terminology). Should work right?

Agrackle, is your sink an American Standard rectangle jobby from the 1920s? We had one in our old house and I did the conversion. The spout fit in the area where the pop up lift rod was located. If I recall correctly I bought the kit at Community Plumbing on Route 22 in Springfield. This was very utilitarian looking, with those knurled type of nobs. However, I did this over twenty years ago and with the popularity of restoring old sinks I imagine some nicer styles are probably available these days. A word of caution. These old sinks don't have an overflow so the fitting below the drain is different than on modern sinks. The correct fitting was included in the kit I bought. I imagine I have raised more questions than I have answered. |
