Thru my mail slot today is a pretty certificate from the Maplewood Civic Association for Honorable Mention for our 2005 holiday decorations. What is this about? We didn't enter any contest or anything (but the decorations were very nice). As our first year in Maplewood I am just curious what this is about.

Colleen that is wonderful. Whoever sponsered this should be commended. It's nice when your recognized for your creative work. Good work Maplewood for encouraging pride in your town.

A committee from the Maplewood Civic Association goes around every year to judge decorations in town. There's no form to fill out, or contest to enter. Congratulations, you're a great American...

That's so cool. I assume South Orange doesn't do this, or I would have recieved my award by now.

Colleen- Congratulations!!! See, someone does notice in this town when people put an effort into making their home look nice!!!
We won about 25 years ago for nicest traditional look or some such thing...I guess I am too traditional...have never changed a thing...maybe next year though....
Anyway...next year let us know your address so we can all make sure to see your honorable mention!

South Orange believes in decorations that withstand the test of time. The best decorations still up in April get the awards. You didn't take yours down yet, did you Jersey Boy?

Take them down? I'm still putting them up! The after season discounts are too good to pass up. Of course, I'm talking Halloween.

Does anyone ever take pictures of the award winning houses? I know several people who received awards this year, but I don't remember what their decorations looked like.

If the civic association published this photos to advertise the competition, more people might put up [tasteful?] decorations in an attempt to garner a prize.
