Does anyone know what number Lindsley? Someone I know lived on the street and I want to make sure it wasn't their parent's house. Before someone tells me to call and ask, the 'friend' and I haven't spoken in years. (since he broke up another friend's marriage and I wouldn't lie for him and her). Does anyone know if the family needs anything? Blaze destroys two-story house MAPLEWOOD: A two-story house was destroyed Sunday morning by a fire that started in the bathroom of a Lindsley Avenue home. Authorities received a call at 9:51 a.m., and arrived to find smoke drifting from the second floor. The blaze was so intense that firefighters from Irvington and Millburn were called in. The occupants of the house were able to evacuate before firefighters arrived. No one was injured.

Why don't you just drive (or walk) along that street? If the damage was as severe as you say, the house involved should be obvious to a passer-by. |

Joan- I guess that would have been the obvious answer -to drive by. But I wasn't in South Orange when I posted the note. |

It was in the Star Ledger 'Law and Order' section last Tuesday (24 January). Considering the fire actually happened a couple of days before that (Sunday), typical, but not unexpected, I didn't see anything in the Snooze Wreckered. Here's a link to the 'blurb.' The story begins at the bottom of the first page. http://www.nj.com/search/index.ssf?/base/news-1/1138081663114670.xml?starledger? nex&coll=1 (it might not work after 6 Feb because the archives are only free for two weeks from the date of the story) |

It's actually pretty hard to start a serious fire in a bathroom given all the tile, porcelain and other non-flammable materials unless one is using candles. |

C I agree! Another thought, from a friend of mine is somebody might have been freebasing. Can't be my old friend. He nor anyone in his family, did drugs. But, then again, they did rent out part of their house. |

CB and JTA - Are you serious about doubting the origin and cause of the fire because it is alleged to have started in the bathroom? |

Bill- No, I don't doubt it started in the bathroom. I'm thinking it might have been a short in the wiring. But as C mentioned, a bathroom does have a lot of porcelain. For a fire to be so intense other departments had to be called in, I'm guessing the fire started in the walls somehow. I'm going to try to take a ride over there before I head back up to NY. |
