I saw some sign appearing to state something to the effect of construction but maybe it was for something else ( I was driving by)last week... Anyone know the scoop? |

They broke ground on the new LDS church a couple weeks ago, but not much has happened there since. The site for the new police station remains surrounded by fence with a picture of the what the facility will look like when completed. Haven't been by that way in a few days, but nothing was going on there last time I was. |

It's kind of ironic that the TC has touted Springfield Avenue as a way to rebuild Maplewood's economic and tax base. And now the two largest pending construction projects on the Avenue will directly generate zero tax dollars. |

Very true hch. But I think the hope (or, dare I say, part of the "plan") is that those two projects, once finished, will bring more people to that area and, thus, bring more businesses to cater to those people which will ultimately bring more tax dollars? |

With respect to the Police - Court Building: The demolition work is already happening - the inside is being worked on first. The buildings are expected to come down this month. Sincerely, Kathy Leventhal Maplewood Township Committee 973-378-9897

Kathy- There was a recent article in either the Times or Ledger about the new Police Department and the plan for it to be 'Green.' Will you please post about this online? I think is something good and others might want to know about it. Thanks! |

Kathy, Would it not be cheaper to hire Dick Cheney to patrol the streets? |

Good idea. All Cheney needs is a beer at lunch and enough birdshot to keep the perps at bay. And if we bring his friend Katharine Armstrong, she can do the PR by blaming the victims for getting shot.

I hear John Edwards may represent him if there's a personal injury lawsuit. |

Why aren't we hiring a project manager to ensure that the building is done correctly the first time? Penny wise and pound foolish. |

Sbenois, What's your issue here? What makes you concerned that we don't, in fact, have professional mangement for this project?

P.S. I never ever suggested that we don't have strong professional management here. The issue is whether we should have someone dedicated to the project. But I will watch the DVD again. |

Sbenois brings up a very valid question. The police station's construction has been a running joke since I moved here 7 years ago. Frankly, there is no reason to believe this time around we can expect any thing different. |

Straw and Sebnois At least Springfield Ave doesn't look the way South Orange Ave does. At least most of the the time the residents of Maplewood can get straight answers to their questions. |

My understanding on the opening time for the new Police/Court building is the Summer of 2007. I'll check with our Engineer on Tuesday to get more up to date information. Sincerely, Kathy Leventhal Maplewood Township Committee 973-378-9897 |

Wait, I'm confused. Is this demolition for the police station, or contractors for PSE&G clearing the right of way for power lines? |
